Artist Makes BTM ‘Logo’ Legit July 12, 2009

World famous Danish artist Elizabeth Romhild is the ‘author’ of the eye-catching and arty ‘logo’ used by Bangkok-based band Billy The Mountain to promote their presence on the web and in key band promo materials. The ‘logo’ is a thumbnail of the Danish artist’s cubist-style work entitled ‘Temptation’ which the band saw when the artist had one of her many exhibitions in Bangkok. Looking for a strong image to promote their feel-good vibe, band leader Zander Ran grabbed a thumbnail of the neat image for the band’s first web site presence on Myspace.
“It has such a cool, colourful vibe and is somehow serious but light-hearted at the same time. I just had to use it because that’s just the way we are – and our music is kinda sexy too,” says Ran.
“Finally, after recording of the first album was completed, I got round to asking Elizabeth for approval, and she graciously consented. We were so knocked out, so we’re telling all our fans to get out there and buy some of the gorgeous Romhild originals. And if you do, you get lifetime free entry to all our concerts and all our CDs free of charge!”
Born in Denmark in 1960 to an Armenian Iranian father and Danish mother, from an early age Elizabeth found it natural to draw from differing cultural influences. Spending her childhood in Iran, with her adult years spent in Saudi Arabia, America, Indonesia, and nearly the last two decades in her adoptive home of Thailand, Elizabeth’s unique heritage and worldly experiences instil her creativity with distinct individuality.
It was in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta at the age of 26 when Elizabeth considers herself born as an artist. From the outset it has been her vibrant use of colour that has drawn her much praise. For the artist, it is something that calls to her, no matter how hard she tries to mute her palette, colour pervades her imagination. She muses that her strong palette could be a reflection of her exuberant personality, contrasting cool north European hues with hotter Middle Eastern colours.
Bangkok-based Billy The Mountain , sponsored by this site, is doing well over on www.iTUNES.com and has exceeded 70,000 listens on their other home www.noisehead.com where their first album Drifting To Valhalla and an unplugged album are hosted.
Check out their latest single WILD WATER, already doing well with their posse of fans across the net and here’s a chance to hear the next hit song due on iTUNES soon – Flim Flam another guitar tour de force from the album’s producer Nicolai Kehlet.
Band manager Tom Gray says the plan is to compile the entire single output in 2009 on to an album ‘Born on Mars’ ready for early 2010 release. He added the band is just commencing rehearsals with a new line-up ready to tour the new album ‘sometime next year’.
