Since the company was founded 50 years ago, Marshall has become one of the most recognisable and iconic names in rock guitar, with the company’s unmistakable livery gracing stages across the globe. Jim Marshall started out as a drum kit retailer but began building amplifiers in the early 1960s, setting out to create a new valve guitar amplifier, using the Fender Bassman circuit as a model. With the sixth prototype, he hit upon ‘the Marshall sound’. The rest is history. (more…)

“Once you’ve been touched by music then age doesn’t matter” PAUL WELLER

“D’you fancy a cup of tea?” asks Paul Weller. “I’m just about to make one.” In his dressing room before the final show of a five-night run at London’s Roundhouse, the Modfather is getting the drinks in. A few years ago, celebrating a No 1 album or backstage at one of his gigs would mean a full-on party. But today, a teetotal Weller doesn’t touch anything stronger than a cup of Tetley’s.

“I haven’t had a hangover in 18 months and I feel great,” says Weller, who admits that he was an alcoholic. (more…)

Tokyo Joe’s goes indie!!?? Yes if Spike Night on Saturday March 31, 2012 from 9pm is anything to go by. It’s an Alternative Live Music event, promoting eclectic artists and inspiring creativity:

  • 9:30 pm Zero Hero [Alternative /Concrete /Rock]

Franky’s eclectic interpretation of our favorite Irish and American classics and English punk songs will ‘raise your head, let’s raise the dead’. Tokyo Joe’s is located at 25/9 Sukhumvit Soi 26, roughly 300 meters into the soi from Sukhumvit, on the left hand side. It is located diagonally across the street from St. James Hotel.

Ronnie Montrose

Life of joy: Ronnie Montrose

Ronnie Montrose has died following a battle with prostate cancer. He was 64.

Friends say he “chose his own exit” after telling them he’d enjoyed a life of joy.

The guitarist had been fighting the disease for several years, recently revealing it had led him to stop playing for two years.

His official website reports: “A few months ago, we held a surprise party for Ronnie Montrose’s 64th birthday. He gave an impromptu speech, and told us that after a long life, filled with joy and hardship, he didn’t take any of our love for granted.

“He passed today. He’d battled cancer, and staved off old age for long enough. True to form, he chose his own exit the way he chose his own life.

“We miss him already, but we’re glad to have shared with him while we could.”

The musician and producer started his career in 1969. During recording of an album with his first band, Sawbuck, he landed a job with Van Morrison. He moved to the Edgar Winter Band before forming Montrose. They released five albums between 1973 and 1987. He also put out eight albums under his own name plus four with experimental outfit Gamma.

During his time he also worked in session and live with Sammy Hagar, Herbie Hancock and many others.

Seems like we missed a stunning rockabilly gig at Tokyo Joe’s Friday..and this latest line-up in the band – Peter Driscoll and The Cruisers – just get better and better. Time you checked them out..and here’s what the band think:

From Paolo the awesome drummer:
Dear Peter, yesterday night was a successful night. The reason could be found in many different little things, but the most important is because we have fun to play together. As I told you already, I will be with you guys as much I have the same fun I had last night; good musicians and good soul make the difference. Little note for everybody: one person not too young yesterday when he was leaving said to me: “It was a long time I didn’t see a performance like this…I could say years and years… thank you, you and your friends because I live in Bkk for a long time and you are definitely something different to see. I will tell  my friends too because your show deserves to be seen”.  Well, that is what I meant when I say fun. Not only for us but when we play, but for the fun between us which the public and enjoy it more. That is all about, because you are great front man, because Vivek is a great guitar, because Kip is a great bass because I do what a drummer should do..the rest is only rock’n'roll but I like it. See you Thursday. Thank you!
